"...very centered in the time period..."
Miss Emily Sinclair has been given an ultimatum. Marry her stepmother's cousin or find herself a husband before the month is up. She's desperate to find someone else and goes to her best friend Sophie hoping Sophie can help her find a suitable man to marry.
Lord Brandon Davenport doesn't want a wife, but he's enjoying his adverture with the maddening miss.
Emily is after adventure, and she doesn't want Brand to discover her true identity. At first she refuses to consider him as husband material, but as the prospects dwindle, she begins to believe he might be the best of the lot!
Emily plans to catch herself a highwayman, with or without Brand's help. How can he pass up the opportunity to have a little adverture of his own with the appealing and adventurous "Emma"?
Unladylike Pursuits has charm and wit. Although slow to start, once the story finds its focus, the sparks fly. I found that the beginning was a little too focused on the secondary characters for my tastes. It felt at times like I was reading two books in one, and although the subplot clearly tied in with the story of Emily and Brand, the pace of the story could have been improved with some judicious trimming.
Regardless, Emily and Brand were a fun couple and their romance was carried by a cute plot. Emily seemed very true to the times, and I loved that she found it so difficult to pass up tea time.
Unladylike Pursuits reads like a traditional regency, sweet and particular, and very centered in the time period in which the story takes place. All in all, an enjoyable read.
