"...meticulously assembled..."

Lily's Sister is an engaging account of two sisters, both beautiful, but each very different.

Lily Caldecott wants beautiful things, travel, and money and she doesn't care what she has to do to get it. Lily marries the town banker, Gordon Fairchild, to gain position in town. Gordon wants a beautiful woman on his arm to help further his career.

Louisa Caldecott wants to run her general store and help the people in Blessing, Kansas.

Louisa has a ward named Billy who is thirteen yet has the mind of a small child. As two bullies tease Billy, Louisa comes to his rescue and finds she needs rescuing herself. That's how she meets John Rock Davis. The ruggedly handsome man takes her breath away, and he's just as smitten with Louisa. As Louisa and John get to know one another, love blossoms.

When a man named Paul Harper comes to Blessing, things get bad. Harper wants to buy all the land east of town and he doesn't care what it takes to get it. As families are run off their property and begin to leave Blessing, and Harper takes an interest in Louisa's general store, Louisa takes a stand. She refuses to sell and becomes a target. John is worried something will happen to her (with good reason) and tries to protect her. Louisa's sister Lily takes up with Paul Harper and doesn't listen to Louisa as she tries to tell her what he's really like. Will Lily find out about Harper before it's too late? Can John and Louisa have a life together?

I think anyone with siblings would want to read this story. Lily's Sister is an exciting tale of suspense and danger, and you'll want to know what's coming for each of the story's characters. You can feel the frustration as families are forced to leave their homes.

Lily's Sister is a meticulously assembled story, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about life in 1880s Kansas.

Book Description for Lily's Sister

Louisa Caldecott, a progressive woman and independent business owner in 1880 Kansas, is principled, strong-willed, passionate, and generous to a fault. Satisfied with her comfortable life, Lou is content to live in her sister Lily’s shadow. Until she meets John Rock Davis, Civil War veteran and man with a past. Until her cherished hometown is rocked by violence and fear and her friends and neighbors begin to act like strangers. Until she is forced to take a stand that threatens to destroy her safety, her happiness, and everything she holds dear. Then all hell—but heaven, too—breaks loose, and self-sufficient Lou finally understands the cost of courage and the power of love.
