"...the ending was worth the wait."
Their Secret Baby is the story of Caitlin, who is raising her deceased cousin's baby, Fleur, and the man who thinks this child belongs to him, Rhys Morgan. He believes Caitlin has been hiding Fleur, because Amelie, Caitlin's deceased cousin and Rhys' ex-wife, never told him about a baby.
Rhys arrives at Caitlin's hotel with a different name to try to see why Catilin has been hiding his child. Caitlin finds out who Rhys really is and is stunned. Amelie has told her all about this Rhys Morgan, or her version of Rhys, anyway.
Instead of being a ferocious mother-bear, I felt like Caitlin was cowering in the corner any time Rhys mentioned taking his child. I would have been a lot more distraught than the author made Caitlin out to be. And I think Rhys was too confident in this story to be believable. What man would run off half-cocked like Rhys did and claim a child that could have very well been fathered by someone else?
I liked the storyline in Their Secret Baby, but I felt like Caitlin was not as strong as she could have been. I didn't get the feeling that Caitlin was as strong and determined as a parent would be. I felt that Caitlin was too passive about Rhys claiming that the child was his. I did love the scene when Caitlin found out Rhys was not who he was claiming to be. It was a relief to have the story move on to the point, the baby, which was why Rhys was there to begin with.
The chemistry between the characters was great. I think that after Rhys found out Caitlin's reasons for not believing he was the baby's father the story got very interesting. I liked the intrigue in this story, it's always nice to have a little mystery with romance and this story had just enough of both. I do feel like at times the story went a little slow for me, especially at the end, but the ending was worth the wait.
