This is Erin Katz's second book and she just keeps getting better!
Chilhowee Cove Police Department officer Lexie Lambert is on her last day-shift before going to midnights. While stationed at The Highway Bar she clocks a motorcycle running 85mph and pulls over the driver.
Max Davis, former Marine and the newest Correction Officer at the county jail, is running late for work and a speeding ticket is the last thing he needs.
After word gets out that Lexie wrote Max a ticket, her friends tease her about how she could offer to drop the charges in exchange for sex—after all it has been three years since her divorce.
Max and Lexie meet at a bar on Christmas day, where he asks her to drop the charge because having that ticket will make his probationary period last 30 days longer than it should. He tells her he'll ower her a favor in exchange.
When she ask where and when, he offers her a dance right now. That once dance leads to one night with Max in his motel room, and as far as Lexie is concerned one night only. But one night is not going to be enough for Max.
I really enjoyed the story between Lexie and Max, how Lexie has to overcome being scared of a relationship after her first marriage ended in divorce. Adding to the story is the departmental gossip that causes turmoil and two secondary characters Karen and Jake.

When she decides to indulge in a one-night stand with the sexy new guy in town, Max Davis, she assumes it will be a fling and nothing more. Max doesn’t want to let Lexie go after just one night. But to continue on the path to happily ever after they have to go over the hurdles of meddling friends, gossip, and the drama of others. Lexie isn’t ready to give up her freedom just yet, but Max seems to ignite a fire in her she didn’t even know was possible. Is that enough to warrant forever?
